Does it mean I'm "crazy" if I see a psychologist?
No, not at all. Life is complex and most people, at one time or
another, can benefit by talking to a professional who can help them work through
their problems if they are feeling "stuck." Recognizing that you can benefit by talking with a
psychologist is like deciding to hire a professional mechanic to work on your
car rather than trying to figure out what to do yourself.
What is a consultation like?
The mode of therapy I practice is more like a therapeutic conversation, so it
is more natural and unstructured than formal psychoanalysis. Most people
who begin their first session a little nervous become relaxed by the end.
How many sessions will it take?
Everyone's situation is unique. After our first consultation, I can
give you an idea of how often and for how long we will likely need to
meet. At each session, we'll discuss actions you can take. Your
progress depends largely on your commitment.
How much does it cost?
We can discuss a payment schedule depending on
your particular situation. Insurance will usually pay
the majority of the fee. Most people will pay a co-pay and some will have
a deductible. Consult your insurance
company for your particular situation to see if a referral or preauthorization
is necessary. I take medicaid and medicare as well as most private
insurance.
